POSITION SUMMARY:

The Volunteer is responsible for performing volunteer duties as they relate to operational department functions. Always maintains strict confidentiality and discretion according to HIPAA requirements. In addition to the specific accountabilities listed below, all positions are required to demonstrate customer skills, including friendliness, courtesy, responsiveness, and empathy. However, it must be emphasized to all volunteers that patient and volunteer safety is paramount, and that under no circumstances may volunteers substitute for licensed medical professionals.

 Duties may include:

Regular rounding for patient/family comfort and supportAnswer general questionsRounding on patients, multiple times per shift if feasibleProvide company to patients who express interestOffer comfort items (blankets or pillows)Provide reading glasses, puzzle books and newspapersAssist with T.V. and charging phonesWith RN permission only, get water or snacks per patient request.Relay relevant or urgent concerns/needs to MST staff. Keep hallways clearRefill blanket warmerStocking basic supplies in rooms or hallways such as:GlovesEmesis BagsDroplet masks

Volunteer should avoid the following:

Cleaning of patient rooms after discharge or other more extensivehousekeeping tasksVolunteers do not handle complaints or concernsGiving advice or educationMoving or assisting a patient physically, you may push someone in a wheelchair under a nurse's direction.Computer usageMaintaining equipmentAdjusting bed without prior RN permissionAvoid entering isolation precaution roomsArriving for their shift if you have cold or flu symptoms

Volunteer: "Get Well" Card Donations for Patients

Many patients in our hospitals are dealing with emotional and physical challenges. We would love to receive "Get Well" cards that we can give to each patient to help cheer them up and motivate them in their healing journey. This is a volunteer role in which any community member can participate without coming to our campus. Feel free to contact our volunteer services department if you have any questions. 

Donated cards will be given to patients by the volunteers in our comfort rounding role as they visit each room. If you are interested in becoming a comfort rounding volunteer, please apply online or email us at volunteer@nahealth.com

Please keep the following in mind when making and donating "Get Well" cards:

Cards can be purchased or homemadeYou can create the cards on your own or organize a group to make many cardsPlease make the cards colorful, fun and upliftingAvoid adding any scents or glitter to the cardsLarge number of cards do not each need an individual envelopeIf able, feel free to list how much time was spent making and mailing the cards. We will incorporate your time spent into our volunteer hours recordYou can drop the cards off at the main entrance of one of our hospitals or mail them:Volunteer Services, 269 S. Candy Ln., Cottonwood, AZ 86326
