We are seeking musicians, especially fiddle/violin, viola, and cello players and people who can play by ear, who to help orchestra students during our monthly workshops at Flagstaff High School. Because it is a large class, it would be beneficial to have volunteers who could offer individual support and make sure all students are up to speed. 

Flag High Wild West Fiddlers brings authentic instruction in Irish fiddle and merges it with other forms such as Latin rhythms. Instruction aligns with the Wild West Fiddle Project, which researches and revives early Arizona folk music and dance traditions with a broad, multicultural lens including immigrant, Native, and fusion traditions.

We are working with FUSD for a pilot project offering carpooling to and from school for 4 priority schools and received a Sustainability Grant from the City of Flagstaff. This is an exciting project that is well on its way to success in improving our environment and lives of parents and kids. Now, we need help encouraging parents from these 4 chosen schools to sign on and try carpooling (at no cost to them).

Volunteers would distribute flyers and hold posters in drop-off lanes when school starts and ends being available to answer questions about carpooling. They also might help us to connect with and present to parent organizations and brainstorm other promotional ideas.

This is an exciting chance to make a real difference in getting an innovative and life-changing idea off the ground! 

You wouldn't need to commit to this on a regular basis, although that would certainly be appreciated. We are flexible to working with your schedule, availability, interests, and ideas and having you as part of the team! Might be fun to do as a friend group.

Do you love music? Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra (FSO) is celebrating its 76th season, and we need you to help make our September concert a success!

Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra is looking for volunteers for the October 24th concert evening, which features extraordinary composers like Tchaikovsky and Brahms.

As a volunteer, you may be responsible for the following:
-Stuffing FSO program booklets with the evening's playbill | 4:45-5:30pm, Ardrey Lobby (second floor)
-Pre-concert reception greeters | 5:45-7:25pm, Kitt Recital Hall Atrium
-Concert ushering and ticket scanning (We are in need of at least four volunteers who would be comfortable using ticket scanners at the door) | 6:30-7:30pm, Ardrey Auditorium
(Please meet at the large double door entrance to Ardrey Auditorium at 6:30pm)

As a thank you, each volunteer will receive one free admission ticket to the concert.

Please sign up for three hour shifts to support the activities of the First Annual Wild Music Festival. This event is at the Weatherford Hotel on Saturday 10/25 from 11AM - 11PM and benefits two local non-profits:  Wild Steps & The Literacy Center. Village Gravel is Flagstaff's newest and best gravel race experience. Picture beautiful, forested singletrack, and a weekend full of riding, community, and pure outdoor joy.

On Sunday, Oct. 26th, High Country Adaptive Sports is teaming up for the grand finale: a pancake breakfast from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. followed by a FREE kids’ race.

Housing Solutions, the nonprofit behind Sharon's Attic Thrift Store, is hosting an UNO Fundraiser at Lowell Observatory to raise funds for their Sharon Manor Transitional Housing Program. This fun and high-energy evening will feature four rounds of speed UNO, heavy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and a silent auction. All proceeds benefit Sharon Manor - a program that has locally supported more than 2,000 survivors of domestic violence since 1999. We are currently seeking volunteers to serve as UNO dealers during the event. Dealers will help facilitate the games at each table, keeping play fun, fair, and fast-paced. Training and instructions will be provided on-site, so no prior experience is needed, just enthusiasm and a willingness to keep the games moving!   The time commitment would be 4:30 – 9:30 PM, which includes setup, game facilitation, and wrap-up. This is a great chance to support survivors, build event experience, and be part of a lively fundraiser at one of Flagstaff’s most unique venues.

Wild Steps' affiliate musical duo Wild World Irish Fiddle offers regular performances and workshops both for disabled people and for the general public. We would love to have dance assistants help out during these. If we have the same people help out regularly, that would be the best option; however, we are also open to occasional or one-off assistants, especially if you can learn and remember a dance quickly.

Kate will teach you the dances a little bit before the event, and you will teach them to audience members while Kate and Armand are playing. We did this with a concert at Coconino Center for the Arts in March, and it worked very well. We do it at our weekly show at Charly's and at concert dates here and there. We also need assistance for our community dances, including with disabled people:

4th Tuesday Inclusively Wild Irish Dance workshop with disabled adults at Quality Connections (1:30-2:30).

4th Wednesday Wild Irish Community Dance at the Montoya Center (6-8pm)

We are planning on a performance with the disabled dancers and could use help with all aspects of making that happen.

Hello Haunted House Fans,

We are brewing up a spooky night at Culture Connection AZ, and we would love your help. On Friday, October 31, we are hosting The Haunted Ice House at The Ice House (201 E Birch Ave) from 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM. Think eerie corridors, jump scares, and a whole lot of fun. To make the magic happen, we are recruiting volunteers for prep nights and for the event itself. Come for one shift or a few. Bring a friend if you want, it will be a scream.

Be a part of historic preservation by taking care of Riordan Mansion's grounds. You may be asked to rake pine needles, pickup sticks and rocks, dispose of trash, eliminate evasive plant species in our gardens, and/or shovel snow.

Each day will take place at the Trinity Heights United Methodist Church, located at 3600 N Fourth St, Flagstaff, AZ 86004

The Uphill is the best winter race in Flagstaff and the biggest fundraiser of the year for Friends of Camp Colton. The race is on Saturday, February 21 at Arizona Snowbowl. We are looking for volunteer teams or individuals to help with race preparations before the race and at the race itself. There are a wide range of tasks. 

Volunteers will meet at the NAU Fieldhouse lobby near the vending machines.  We will meet you there and give you instructions.  You will assist in setting up the recruiter check-in area, setting up the student check-in area, setting up floor signs, table signs, table linens and setting out other event supplies.  The Campus Events staff will set up all the tables and chairs, but we may need your help moving them around slightly.

We also need volunteers for the fair day as well!

Volunteers will report to the Student Check-In area in the fieldhouse lobby.  During your shift you may be assigned to the following areas: Recruiter Check-in, Recruiter Table Guide, Student Check-In, Fair Promotion on the pedway, Line Management in the fieldhouse lobby or the Student Welcome Table in the fieldhouse lobby.  We will email you more information about your assignment and what to expect a few days before the fair. 

What to wear/bring: Wear an NAU T-shirt if you have one, nice jeans (no holes), comfortable shoes, water bottle, snacks and sunscreen/hat if it's a warm day and warm layers if it's cold outside.

Help children build confidence, discover the joy of reading, and reach their literacy goals. Just a few hours a week can make a lifelong impact. Work in elementary schools two days a week from approximately one hour each day supporting literacy. The Literacy Center will provide you with the training, curriculum & support you need to tutor in successful Raising Readers program. Current schools that we are working with are:  Sechrist, Killip, Thomas & Cromer. Shifts are approximately hour with a schedule that is either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday.   

The Flagstaff International Film Festival seeks year-round volunteers with backgrounds in film, theater, or writing who can commit to reading three screenplays during the festival year. Ideal candidates should understand three-act structure, character arcs, pacing, and possess skills to critically evaluate scripts. You'll need to identify strengths and weaknesses in storytelling, character development, dialogue, and overall coherence. Excellent writing skills are essential for providing clear, constructive feedback to our judges. Above all, we seek individuals with a genuine passion for storytelling and the ability to remain unbiased, prioritizing story quality over personal genre preferences.

FIFF receives submissions in diverse genres, including drama, western, family, thriller, comedy, romance, science-fiction, horror, fantasy, and mystery/crime. On average, it takes about four hours to read a screenplay.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to network with aspiring filmmakers and industry professionals, contribute to the artistic community, and play a vital role in helping judges select the most deserving winning screenplay of the festival year.

All screenplay readers must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) to protect the confidentiality of the screenplay. By signing the NDA, you agree not to share or discuss the content of the script outside the review process.

In appreciation of your contributions, all screenplay readers receive a complimentary Weekend Pass to the 2026 Flagstaff International Film Festival.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN AS A LOWELL OBSERVATORY VOLUNTEER

You will be provided with an overview of the Observatory’s history and mission (including related reading material); facility orientation; introduction to department supervisors; timekeeping procedures, scheduling and attendance, dress code

Guided tour training will be provided by the public program volunteer liaison

Familiarity with the history of Lowell Observatory including the Clark telescope and the Pluto Discovery telescope.

Ability to point out and give directions to campus locations, buildings and museums.

Ability to explain the day time activities schedule to visitors.

Ability to answer questions about Lowell history, current research and basic astronomy

WORKING CONDITIONS

Activities are performed both indoors and outside during the day, with extended periods of standing and walking around campus at 7000 feet elevation and over uneven terrain. Winter weather is cold and summer weather can be hot and rainy at times; appropriate dress and footwear is essential for comfort and safety.

Activities require good speaking and listening skills.

This role requires good physical mobility with walking outdoors under a variety of weather conditions.

The Foster Alliance provides jewelry and accessories both in our Essential Needs program and in Birthday Dreams bags for children in foster care. Handmade beaded friendship bracelets are a great way for children to feel loved/special and to express themselves. Volunteers must provide the materials to make the bracelets. Please read and follow instructions carefully! Once you have competed items, please bring them to SBS West Rm. 6 on NAU campus.

We hold bi-monthly board meetings and expect all board members to volunteer for one of our committees.

The Foster Care Review Board is a virtual based program that meets monthly via Zoom, providing a convenient and accessible way for volunteers to collaborate, review cases, and make impactful decisions from the comfort of their own homes. New Board Member training and ongoing annual training is provided for this volunteer position. Volunteers are appointed by the presiding judge to service at least a one-to-three-year term.

In search of individuals that can assist in advocating and retrieving donations that can be used at our annual event, The Patriot Tour. All money raised will go back to Arizona veterans and their families in need. This role is open to anyone with interest. Items can be collected throughout the state and is not exclusive to Flagstaff or Northern Arizona.

I am available to discuss items needed and provide documentation in support of our non-profit that can be supplied to businesses.

Habitat for Humanity is looking for volunteers to accept, move and organize Habitat ReStore donations at our store front.

Hope receives donations of baby items which are then passed onto our clients.  We are in need of volunteers to sort through the donations and restock our baby boutique.

A Tynkertopia Special Events Volunteer assists with organizing and executing interactive STEAM activities at community events such as Earth Day, Art in the Park, Festival of Science, and Astronomy Night. They engage with participants, provide support for event logistics, and help ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for attendees of all ages. Volunteers also contribute to creating a fun, educational atmosphere that promotes curiosity and hands-on learning.

Volunteers at Tynkertopia assist with a variety of tasks, including supporting hands-on STEAM learning activities, guiding participants through creative projects, and helping maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment. They play an essential role in fostering curiosity and collaboration, while also supporting the staff in creating a positive and engaging experience for all visitors. A fingerprint clearance card is required.

A Tynkertopia Marketing Volunteer assists Executive Director, Dr. Alice Christie, in developing and executing marketing strategies to promote the center’s services and financial needs. They help create content for social media, newsletters, and promotional materials, ensuring that Tynkertopia’s mission and fundraising goals reach a wide audience. The volunteer also collaborates with the team to enhance community engagement and support for Tynkertopia’s programs and initiatives.

A Tynkertopia Marketing Volunteer assists Executive Director, Dr. Alice Christie, in developing and executing marketing strategies to promote the center’s services and financial needs. They help create content for social media, newsletters, and promotional materials, ensuring that Tynkertopia’s mission and fundraising goals reach a wide audience. The volunteer also collaborates with the team to enhance community engagement and support for Tynkertopia’s programs and initiatives.

We need help optimizing social media to get the word out about our shows, including our “home”: Irish Night@Charly’s. This weekly event, Thursdays 7-9:30pm, celebrates cultural exchange through music, as we recreate traditions of music, dance, and community, and invite audience members to participate and share the richness of their own backgrounds. This involves people across cultures and ages (from ages 7-77 is what we’ve seen) dancing together and listening to original music blending Celtic and Latin traditions. 

We believe there would be a much larger turnout if we could optimize social media presence and brainstorm other ways to inform people that this exists. People love the event when they do find out about it, but most are just by chance and are out of towners. We'd like to cultivate a regular local following. We are also interested in help finding musicians for our guest musician program at this same show, which brings in talent from various traditions.

We have Facebook, Instagram, and a YouTube channel, but we’re not sure how to increase impact of these resources and expand our presence. 

Flyers and posting on calendars/ updating posts would be great in addition to social media spreading, as would taking and posting video and photos of our shows, though different volunteers could do different tasks.

We believe you can come up with ideas that would make this show take off!

Filming and taking photos during Wild World Irish Fiddle community dance and live music events. This would also help greatly with getting the word out! Filming directly to our Instagram would be powerful. Just having documentation of what we do is always extremely helpful, and it’ll keep our YouTube channel up to date.

We are playing for the Celtic Festival July 19-20 and would love help then, or at a future concert as well as our regular show. Volunteers can do this on a one-off or more frequent basis and do not need equipment or experience, just motivation and interest.  

Seeking new opportunities for what we do. Liaising with facilities for elderly, disabled, and other vulnerable populations and seeking new partnerships with them would expand our outreach. Finding all kinds of new venues for concerts, festival presences, and workshops would further our mission of cross-cultural understanding and community enjoyment through music and dance.

Concretely, a volunteer team would identify opportunities, develop/improve marketing materials, and reach out to venues. We envision a team that works well together and has complementary skill sets.

Research for the Wild West Fiddle Project. We found that there is a lack of research on music and dance traditions from present-day Arizona and the Colorado Plateau, though we know these were a vibrant part of life. We seek to find out as much as we can about this, including what tunes were played and dances danced, and how different cultural traditions combined. We’d like to recreate these through interactive concerts, workshops, and dances. All aspects and methods of research and involvement around this topic are welcome!

Concretely speaking, volunteers might comb through archives, locate recordings and sheet music, find and talk with elders, discover immigrant and Native past with regard to music and dance, and interact with professors, historians, and history museum employees, as well as identifying new ways to do such research.

There are two Advisory Board openings: one for legal and one for financial advice. The goal is for our new organization to grow on a solid foundation of continued fiscal and administrative health through ongoing support in navigating administrative challenges regarding fiscal and organizational possibilities and protocols. 

Concretely speaking, we are seeking qualified and/or experienced legal and financial people who believe in what we are doing and have a passion for service or just want to give back to the community through filling in gaps in what we know and can do. This includes going over our finances with us and our administrative paperwork to make sure we are doing everything correctly and letting us know what we might need to do better and what options could help us grow.

The NACA Pathways Youth Program is a substance use prevention program tailored for Native American youth and their families, in the Flagstaff community, who can benefit from a supportive and nurturing environment. We provide information and education on developing and maintaining healthy lifestyles to youth and their families. The program is designed to be culturally and age appropriate. Pathways offers afterschool and some weekend activities that promote self-esteem, educational enrichment, physical fitness, traditional practices, and cultural values, to children in grades 1st through sixth, and their families.

At NACA, we provide our patients with an array of medical services, from pediatrics to adult and women’s health, mental health services and programs, economic development programs, and community outreach projects. Administrative Assistance volunteers can help with administrative tasks that occur in each of NACA's programs. For example, document submissions, file organizing, appointment scheduling, etc.

FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM

Are you a compassionate senior looking to make a meaningful impact in your community? Join the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program and help shape the future, one child at a time.

As a Foster Grandparent volunteer, you'll serve as a mentor, tutor, and positive role model to children in local schools, Head Start centers, early childhood programs, libraries, after-school programs, and other nonprofits that support youth. This is a unique opportunity to share your time, skills, and life experience to help children learn, grow, and thrive. Can you help us put up flyers for our events around NAU, downtown, East Flag, and/or any other locality you visit where people might be interested in music and dance? This would involve picking up flyers at our locale (my house) near NAU and distributing them far and wide, whenever/wherever you can. 

As a new nonprofit, we recognize the importance of having a website. We would like to provide content to a motivated volunteer who will research cheap and user-friendly platforms and after we subscribe, will create the website to make professional looking and visually appealing content. They can manage it (putting up new content we give) for as long as they want thereafter and set it up so future volunteers can do so. 

The Southside Community Association invites you to join us in the garden for Thursday evening workdays at the Murdoch Friendship Garden - a volunteer-driven communal garden where anyone can take what they need; work if they want.

Located just north of NAU's campus, our goals are to build a more connected and organized community through gardening, while fostering learning and experimentation around food production in our high desert climate. Food grown in our garden supports the Flagstaff Community Fridge - a take what you need; leave what you can model for more dignified community food sharing.

In support of the Willow Bend Environmental Education Center, we care for a dozen small native plant gardens representing local habitats. Along with routine gardening tasks, we are boosting the gardens' resilience to climate change by preparing them for 40 more shrubs and trees to increase shade and screen the wind. In October, we'll plant those shrubs and trees and add more native forbs and grasses. The gardens are a tranquil oasis for the surrounding diverse neighborhoods as well as a place to learn about our area's climate, native plants and animals, and the challenges of gardening here. We would love volunteers ASAP to start promoting this event via flyers and social media! We seek to build a dynamic logistics team to see this festival through from start to finish, though if people just want to do a shift here and there, that's okay too. 

For the day of the festival, Oct. 25, we will need people all day to welcome out-of-town musicians, greet festival-goers, and overall keep things running smoothly. This is in partnership with The Literacy Center and is largely a fundraiser to support their and Wild Steps' programs.

This festival brings together musicians who venture deeply into the roots of a tradition to the place where their deep roots intertwine with the deep roots from other traditions; community-based entertainment and education is at the core, as each act will show dance steps from their cultures, answer questions, lead workshops, and all performers may jam together on stage at the end.

High Country Humane is looking for some extra help in providing our wonderful dogs some extra enrichment. We oftentimes have 80+ dogs onsite, and only limited staff to provide a healthy, safe, and enriching environment for these dogs. Some of our long-timers or high energy breeds desperately need more than what we can give, so this is your opportunity to help give our dogs a much needed break from the stressful surroundings of a shelter environment!

To take one of our dogs on a hike, you do not need to complete volunteer orientation or undergo any training. It is as simple as coming to the shelter, telling front desk you would like to take a dog on a hike, signing out the dog, and then having a great time walking, cuddling, and exploring with the dog! It is really up to you where you go with the dog once you are offsite, all we ask is that you keep the dog on a leash at all times unless inside of a controlled environment such as your house. If you plan on going to a more populated area or going inside of dog-friendly stores, make sure to communicate that with dog team staff when discussing what dog you will be taking!
