Flag High Wild West Fiddlers brings authentic instruction in Irish fiddle and merges it with other forms such as Latin rhythms. Instruction aligns with the Wild West Fiddle Project, which researches and revives early Arizona folk music and dance traditions with a broad, multicultural lens including immigrant, Native, and fusion traditions.

The Flagstaff Family Food Center’s kitchen events provide hot, nutritious meals to anyone in need, no questions asked. These community meals are served daily in a welcoming, safe environment where volunteers and staff work together to prepare, serve, and clean up. The kitchen is a hub of compassion and connection, offering not just food but also dignity and support to those experiencing hardship. Through these efforts, the center helps fight hunger and build community one meal at a time.

We are working with FUSD for a pilot project offering carpooling to and from school for 4 priority schools and received a Sustainability Grant from the City of Flagstaff. This is an exciting project that is well on its way to success in improving our environment and lives of parents and kids. Now, we need help encouraging parents from these 4 chosen schools to sign on and try carpooling (at no cost to them).

Volunteers would distribute flyers and hold posters in drop-off lanes when school starts and ends being available to answer questions about carpooling. They also might help us to connect with and present to parent organizations and brainstorm other promotional ideas.

This is an exciting chance to make a real difference in getting an innovative and life-changing idea off the ground! 

You wouldn't need to commit to this on a regular basis, although that would certainly be appreciated. We are flexible to working with your schedule, availability, interests, and ideas and having you as part of the team! Might be fun to do as a friend group.

During Produce Box Packing, volunteers gather to sort, organize, and pack fresh fruits and vegetables into boxes for families and individuals in need. Working together in a supportive, team-driven environment, you’ll ensure each box is packed with care and meets quality guidelines.

Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra is looking for volunteers for the February 13th concert evening, which features decadent works throughout history.

As a volunteer, you may be responsible for the following:
-Stuffing FSO program booklets with the evening's playbill | 5:00-5:30pm, Ardrey Lobby (second floor)
-Pre-concert reception greeters | 5:45-7:25pm, Kitt Recital Hall Atrium

The Uphill is the best winter race in Flagstaff and the biggest fundraiser of the year for Friends of Camp Colton. The race is on Saturday, February 21 at Arizona Snowbowl. We are looking for volunteer teams or individuals to help with race preparations before the race and at the race itself. There are a wide range of tasks. 

Join Special Olympics Arizona for the Mountain Area Basketball Competition in Flagstaff!

Volunteers are needed for event support and, as always, cheering the athletes on!

Wild Steps' affiliate musical duo Wild World Irish Fiddle offers regular performances and workshops both for disabled people and for the general public. We would love to have dance assistants help out during these. If we have the same people help out regularly, that would be the best option; however, we are also open to occasional or one-off assistants, especially if you can learn and remember a dance quickly.

Kate will teach you the dances a little bit before the event, and you will teach them to audience members while Kate and Armand are playing. We did this with a concert at Coconino Center for the Arts in March, and it worked very well. We do it at our weekly show at Charly's and at concert dates here and there. We also need assistance for our community dances, including with disabled people:

4th Tuesday Inclusively Wild Irish Dance workshop with disabled adults at Quality Connections (1:30-2:30).

4th Wednesday Wild Irish Community Dance at the Montoya Center (6-8pm)

We are planning on a performance with the disabled dancers and could use help with all aspects of making that happen.

FIFF is looking for a friendly, organized Volunteer Coordinator to help bring our film community together and support three exciting events this year. This role is perfect for anyone curious about event planning or event coordination, and a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience working behind the scenes of creative, community-driven events. You’ll help recruit, organize, and support our volunteers for our weekend filmmaking competition, the State 48 Hour Film Project in April, the screening of our Northern Arizona Film Society in June, and our Film Festival on August 1–2. If you enjoy working with people, staying organized, and being part of a collaborative, film-loving community, this is a wonderful way to learn how events come to life while making meaningful connections along the way. The co-founder of the Flagstaff International Film Festival is producing a documentary short film centered on Arizona’s historic Route 66, scheduled to be filmed in late March. This project documents an important piece of Arizona history and offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to the creation of a lasting historical record. All positions are volunteer-based, and all participants will receive on-screen and IMDb credit.

Production Coordinator
Assist with planning and managing logistics throughout pre-production, production, and post-production.

Archivist
Research and organize photographs, footage, documents, and archival materials related to Arizona’s Route 66, drawing from Cline Library collections as well as other Arizona-based resource organizations.

Music Supervisor
Research and select music that reflects the era of Route 66’s heyday (1930s-early 1960s). Source music from free, public domain sites and ensure that all selections enhance the storytelling and atmosphere of the documentary.

Post-Soud Mixer
Mix and balance all audio elements of the documentary, including dialogue, music, and sound effects, to create a polished, cohesive soundscape. Ensure clarity, consistency, and emotional impact throughout the film, enhancing the storytelling and overall viewer experience.

Graphic Designer
Design the film’s official poster and supporting graphics.

Set-up/Break-down Support
- Assisting OURCA staff in general set up of presentation boards, flags, directional maps, and other items as needed or asked by staff
- Organizing the presentation area and surrounding spaces to fit the needs of Symposium presenters and visitors
- Being available to switch tasks quickly due to changing needs and remaining flexible when possible
- Breaking down the following:
       - Flags
       - Directional maps
       - Easels
       - Collecting and organizing smaller items like board numbers, general office supplies, other signs and anything belonging to the OURCA office

Welcome Table Greeters -  You will greet people who approach the welcome table and answer general questions including, but not limited to: 

- Where a specific presentation may be taking place;

-How to find a location within the High-Country Conference Center, the Drury, and/or the 1899 Ballroom 

-Explaining where presenters can find their presentation area, where reviewers can find the reviewer area, where support staff are needed etc. 

-How long the Symposium will be going on

-Where/when presentations from specific colleges will be taking place 

Help children build confidence, find joy in reading, and reach their literacy goals. Just a few hours a week can make a lifelong impact.

Tutors support literacy in elementary classrooms 1 day a week for about 1 - 1.5 hours each day. The Literacy Center provides all training, curriculum, and support for our Raising Readers program.

We are currently partnering with Sechrist, Killip, Thomas, and Cromer elementary schools. Shifts are approximately one hour Monday - Thursday (choose your day).

The Flagstaff International Film Festival seeks year-round volunteers with backgrounds in film, theater, or writing who can commit to reading four screenplays during the festival year. Ideal candidates should understand three-act structure, character arcs, pacing, and possess skills to critically evaluate scripts. You'll need to identify strengths and weaknesses in storytelling, character development, dialogue, and overall coherence. Excellent writing skills are essential for providing clear, constructive feedback to our judges. Above all, we seek individuals with a genuine passion for storytelling and the ability to remain unbiased, prioritizing story quality over personal genre preferences.

FIFF receives submissions in diverse genres, including drama, western, family, thriller, comedy, romance, science-fiction, horror, fantasy, and mystery/crime. On average, it takes about four hours to read a screenplay.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to network with aspiring filmmakers and industry professionals, contribute to the artistic community, and play a vital role in helping judges select the most deserving winning screenplay of the festival year.

All screenplay readers must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) to protect the confidentiality of the screenplay. By signing the NDA, you agree not to share or discuss the content of the script outside the review process.

In appreciation of your contributions, all screenplay readers receive a complimentary Weekend Pass to the 2026 Flagstaff International Film Festival.

The Literacy Center is seeking a volunteer to support our social media and media-related efforts. This role will help create and share engaging content that highlights our literacy, youth education, and immigration programs. Responsibilities include assisting with social media posts, basic content creation (photos, short videos, graphics), and helping maintain consistent online engagement. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN AS A LOWELL OBSERVATORY VOLUNTEER

You will be provided with an overview of the Observatory’s history and mission (including related reading material); facility orientation; introduction to department supervisors; timekeeping procedures, scheduling and attendance, dress code

Guided tour training will be provided by the public program volunteer liaison

Familiarity with the history of Lowell Observatory including the Clark telescope and the Pluto Discovery telescope.

Ability to point out and give directions to campus locations, buildings and museums.

Ability to explain the day time activities schedule to visitors.

Ability to answer questions about Lowell history, current research and basic astronomy

WORKING CONDITIONS

Activities are performed both indoors and outside during the day, with extended periods of standing and walking around campus at 7000 feet elevation and over uneven terrain. Winter weather is cold and summer weather can be hot and rainy at times; appropriate dress and footwear is essential for comfort and safety.

Activities require good speaking and listening skills.

This role requires good physical mobility with walking outdoors under a variety of weather conditions.

Handmade beaded friendship bracelets are a great way for children to feel loved/special and to express themselves. Volunteers must provide the materials to make the bracelets. The Foster Care Review Board is a virtual based program that meets monthly via Zoom, providing a convenient and accessible way for volunteers to collaborate, review cases, and make impactful decisions from the comfort of their own homes. New Board Member training and ongoing annual training is provided for this volunteer position. Volunteers are appointed by the presiding judge to service at least a one-to-three-year term.

In search of individuals that can assist in advocating and retrieving donations that can be used at our annual event, The Patriot Tour. All money raised will go back to Arizona veterans and their families in need. This role is open to anyone with interest. Items can be collected throughout the state and is not exclusive to Flagstaff or Northern Arizona.

I am available to discuss items needed and provide documentation in support of our non-profit that can be supplied to businesses.

Hope receives donations of baby items which are then passed onto our clients.  We are in need of volunteers to sort through the donations and restock our baby boutique.

A Tynkertopia Special Events Volunteer assists with organizing and executing interactive STEAM activities at community events such as Earth Day, Art in the Park, Festival of Science, and Astronomy Night. They engage with participants, provide support for event logistics, and help ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for attendees of all ages. Volunteers also contribute to creating a fun, educational atmosphere that promotes curiosity and hands-on learning.

We need help optimizing social media to get the word out about our shows, including our “home”: Irish Night@Charly’s. This weekly event, Thursdays 7-9:30pm, celebrates cultural exchange through music, as we recreate traditions of music, dance, and community, and invite audience members to participate and share the richness of their own backgrounds. This involves people across cultures and ages (from ages 7-77 is what we’ve seen) dancing together and listening to original music blending Celtic and Latin traditions. 

We believe there would be a much larger turnout if we could optimize social media presence and brainstorm other ways to inform people that this exists. People love the event when they do find out about it, but most are just by chance and are out of towners. We'd like to cultivate a regular local following. We are also interested in help finding musicians for our guest musician program at this same show, which brings in talent from various traditions.

We have Facebook, Instagram, and a YouTube channel, but we’re not sure how to increase impact of these resources and expand our presence. 

Flyers and posting on calendars/ updating posts would be great in addition to social media spreading, as would taking and posting video and photos of our shows, though different volunteers could do different tasks.

We believe you can come up with ideas that would make this show take off!

Filming and taking photos during Wild World Irish Fiddle community dance and live music events. This would also help greatly with getting the word out! Filming directly to our Instagram would be powerful. Just having documentation of what we do is always extremely helpful, and it’ll keep our YouTube channel up to date.

We are playing for the Celtic Festival July 19-20 and would love help then, or at a future concert as well as our regular show. Volunteers can do this on a one-off or more frequent basis and do not need equipment or experience, just motivation and interest.  

Seeking new opportunities for what we do. Liaising with facilities for elderly, disabled, and other vulnerable populations and seeking new partnerships with them would expand our outreach. Finding all kinds of new venues for concerts, festival presences, and workshops would further our mission of cross-cultural understanding and community enjoyment through music and dance.

Concretely, a volunteer team would identify opportunities, develop/improve marketing materials, and reach out to venues. We envision a team that works well together and has complementary skill sets.

Research for the Wild West Fiddle Project. We found that there is a lack of research on music and dance traditions from present-day Arizona and the Colorado Plateau, though we know these were a vibrant part of life. We seek to find out as much as we can about this, including what tunes were played and dances danced, and how different cultural traditions combined. We’d like to recreate these through interactive concerts, workshops, and dances. All aspects and methods of research and involvement around this topic are welcome!

Concretely speaking, volunteers might comb through archives, locate recordings and sheet music, find and talk with elders, discover immigrant and Native past with regard to music and dance, and interact with professors, historians, and history museum employees, as well as identifying new ways to do such research.

There are two Advisory Board openings: one for legal and one for financial advice. The goal is for our new organization to grow on a solid foundation of continued fiscal and administrative health through ongoing support in navigating administrative challenges regarding fiscal and organizational possibilities and protocols. 

Concretely speaking, we are seeking qualified and/or experienced legal and financial people who believe in what we are doing and have a passion for service or just want to give back to the community through filling in gaps in what we know and can do. This includes going over our finances with us and our administrative paperwork to make sure we are doing everything correctly and letting us know what we might need to do better and what options could help us grow.

The NACA Pathways Youth Program is a substance use prevention program tailored for Native American youth and their families, in the Flagstaff community, who can benefit from a supportive and nurturing environment. We provide information and education on developing and maintaining healthy lifestyles to youth and their families. The program is designed to be culturally and age appropriate. Pathways offers afterschool and some weekend activities that promote self-esteem, educational enrichment, physical fitness, traditional practices, and cultural values, to children in grades 1st through sixth, and their families.

At NACA, we provide our patients with an array of medical services, from pediatrics to adult and women’s health, mental health services and programs, economic development programs, and community outreach projects. Administrative Assistance volunteers can help with administrative tasks that occur in each of NACA's programs. For example, document submissions, file organizing, appointment scheduling, etc.

The Summit High School Ravens are seeking passionate, engaging and enthusiastic volunteers!

We would love volunteers ASAP to start promoting this event via flyers and social media! We seek to build a dynamic logistics team to see this festival through from start to finish, though if people just want to do a shift here and there, that's okay too. 

For the day of the festival, Oct. 25, we will need people all day to welcome out-of-town musicians, greet festival-goers, and overall keep things running smoothly. This is in partnership with The Literacy Center and is largely a fundraiser to support their and Wild Steps' programs.

This festival brings together musicians who venture deeply into the roots of a tradition to the place where their deep roots intertwine with the deep roots from other traditions; community-based entertainment and education is at the core, as each act will show dance steps from their cultures, answer questions, lead workshops, and all performers may jam together on stage at the end.

High Country Humane is looking for some extra help in providing our wonderful dogs some extra enrichment. We oftentimes have 80+ dogs onsite, and only limited staff to provide a healthy, safe, and enriching environment for these dogs. Some of our long-timers or high energy breeds desperately need more than what we can give, so this is your opportunity to help give our dogs a much needed break from the stressful surroundings of a shelter environment!

To take one of our dogs on a hike, you do not need to complete volunteer orientation or undergo any training. It is as simple as coming to the shelter, telling front desk you would like to take a dog on a hike, signing out the dog, and then having a great time walking, cuddling, and exploring with the dog! It is really up to you where you go with the dog once you are offsite, all we ask is that you keep the dog on a leash at all times unless inside of a controlled environment such as your house. If you plan on going to a more populated area or going inside of dog-friendly stores, make sure to communicate that with dog team staff when discussing what dog you will be taking!

Want to join your student on a field trip this year? We’d love to have you as a chaperone!

Starting in the 2025 school year, everyone who chaperones field trips, even parents/guardians, must have an approved volunteer packet on file. This was implemented by the District to ensure the safety and security of our students, teachers, and chaperones.

1. Fill out our FUSD volunteer packet: FUSD Volunteer Packet

2. Bring the packet to the front office at Cromer; or, email your completed packet to Keely at the front office (korndorff@fusd1.org). We will then call your references and let you know when your packet is ready for submission.

3. The 3rd page of the Volunteer Packet includes a Volunteer Form to Notarize.  You are welcome to have the page notarized at an alternate location. Otherwise, the district office is available to notarize forms on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.

4. Bring your completed Volunteer Packet to Human Resources at the FUSD District Office (3285 E. Sparrow Ave, Flagstaff, AZ 86004). Be sure to bring a valid ID or an IVP fingerprint clearance card if you have one.

4. At the District, they will complete a BIB background screening (unless you already have an IVP fingerprint clearance card).

5. Once your background screening clears, Human Resources will email a confirmation to you and to Cromer that shows you are ready to start volunteering!

6. Create an Axe of Service Account & Respond to this Volunteer Need. On field trip day, you'll check-in for volunteering with the front desk.
